b) The resulting base then reacts with acid from the spill in a neutralization reaction. Write the balacned chemical reaction for this neutralization.

CaO + H2O ----> Ca(OH)2

This will react with any acid eg HCl:

2HCl + Ca(OH)2 -----> CaCl2 + 2H2O

or H+ + OH- ----> H2O
