I'm not sure about the figures, but I do know that the population of Britain is increasing faster than most other places simply because, unlike other countries with a brain, Britain cannot seem to understand that it is ok to say no. they can simply close their doors and say 'sorry. we're full. try the next country over.'
I'm sorry if I seem to come across as being very rude, but this is a topic that really gets me annoyed. it's not that I'm racist or anything like that. I'm an Indian citizen but I have a full British nationality. And since I am living here, I am seriously concerned about it. I don't know why they don't just close their gates and spend the money that is being shoved into their pockets for something a little more useful, perhaps.
But then again, that is just a dream. I think we all know it's unlikely that Britain will have enough common sense in our lifetime.

Whatever newspaper reported the story you quote is seriously mistaken. The UK's population is not currently as high as 65 million but was a 'mere' 60.2 million as at mid-2005 - see http://www.statistics.gov.uk/CCI/nugget.asp?ID=6.

The population might reach 65 million by roughly 2025, at which point immigation might be about 135,000 persons per year - see http://www.guardian.co.uk/population/Story/0,,594319,00.html

Which daily paper was your story in? Did you notice they're implying immigration is over 1 million per year? I'm betting either the Mail or Express.

i doubt that the government will ever stop immigrants coming to the uk, how ever if it continues at the rate it currently is the uk will slide of the face of the earth as it will be top heavy

You can fit every human on the planet on to the Isle of White.

All those extra people hopefully will be contributing to your future pensions. Without them our population would be falling.. with more aged and less young to work and pay taxes. I prefer the skilled and semi-skilled though coming to UK.

The reason the government is allowing all these immigrants, especially for the EU, is so that eventually they will out number the native population and then they will have the referendum on joining the Euro/EU. This is the reason for the out of control immigration.

I always thought it was bad food that make people think twice about moving to Britain. That's what I hear.

the government never looks into the future all they think about is now, while there in charge its all to make themselves look good! especially Britain, to eager to please bush the biggest hypocrite when it come to charitable acts in ones own country,i think the best thing we can do is help the other countries not fling open the door and roll out the red carpet straight away!

'are' = our
'surley' = surely
And there are these things called 'full stops' and apostrophes.
What daily paper therefore do you read?
It's probably a load of cr4p, so focus on something a little more important.
