There's always a 'seemed like a good idea at the time' rationale to the actions of humans.
This time round, the perceived problem of overpopulation of the globe has a key role in the decisions made by human collectives.
We have many conflicts in our hearts as humans, I am Australian we are in conflict with our own fears too. I know this isn't so much an answer but it is worth contemplating for all those who have vision.

They only turn a blind eye to it if they're the ones doing it or if its "someone else". Then come in at the end and be the "hero" that saves the day. "America" experienced the same with its own native tribes..... Didn't bother the invaders one bit!
If some entity (or numerous ones) attacked the money or flow of it in the US and caused a "financial genocide" I'm certain things would be MUCH different!!! ;)

Why put all the blame on USA? How many nations are in the UN and ideally this should be a group force but this over-population thing is making leaders do crazy things. We care about blacks we protested the Darfur horrors but the other nations did not kick in. The AU-African Union was counted on to help but proved to have other interests. If the UN as a body created with the hopes of inserting peace in places of injustice will not take on these issues, it makes one wonder what exactly are they up to.

And why is it our responsibility to police the world? It's bad enough that we have to do what we're doing now. If the rest of the world is so concerned about the problems existing in this world, then step up and do something themselves! We're not the fix-everything for everybody country. Stand on your own two feet!

Why does everyone assume that it's America's responsibility to play World Cop and be solely responsible for cleaning up everyone else's crap?
Besides, whenever America DOES get involved, we automatically get labeled as meddling imperialists. So we're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

If they do something about it,your question would have been why does America think they have the right to interfere, the real question should be why do people like you always find something to blame America for

Nobody else did anything.
What about Kosovo. The US prompted Nato to send in a peace keeping force.
I think you are a little uninformed.

Most of the world does, too. If we intervene it's our fault, if we don't it's our fault. The USA isn't Superman. We can't fix everything in the world, even if we wanted to.

Because when we do try to do something about it, half the country begins complaining and saying it is none of our business (See War in Iraq and the Liberals not wanting to end Saddam Hussein and his evil regime)

I wish I knew the answer to this. I still don't understand how Anna Nicole is front page news, but hundreds or thousands of people are being murdered and you don't hear about it.
