It is because, for the past couple generations (in America, and probably in most of the rest of the world as well) we have been fed good solid lies about sex. We have been taught to compare ourselves with others, when all that does is make us jealous of “perfect’ bodies that have had their flaws airbrushed away (or, in the case of toons, never drawn in the first place.)

We have been so hyped up to expect it as the greatest be-all and end-all experience, that we think, “is that all there is to it…?” and instead of being grateful for it, we look for more, for more unusual, for ‘variations’….

People who have never been restricted by their parents or elders in any way, or people who still harbor resentment against their parents or elders in some way, push the boundaries, trying to make what doesn’t work, to ‘work’. They try replacing actual procreation and the pleasures that attend it (before and during the act, and the satisfaction of raising the child to responsible adulthood) with a pretense.

And they convince themselves that because they have been told they cannot have a pony (whatever they want)-- not even if they will let him eat their vegetables and sleep in their rooms-- anybody who tells them that they cannot have a pony hates them and is selfish and cruel.

Weird people who ‘want what they want’ no matter how impossible it is, live out weird lifestyles and try to illustrate them as real and possible, and don’t realize how it harms them and others.

Hmm... yeah I guess some of them can be pretty disturbing. (I especially hate YAOI!!! It makes me puke!!!)

Still, there's actually some pretty sensible hentai out there like Kanon or Shuffle! where the characters all have unique personalities and the storyline's not entirely(sometimes even never) focused on sex. Besides, hentai is pretty much more of an art and it's pretty much not as bad compared to actual live action porn. (Which btw is another thing that makes me puke, and that's saying something cuz I'm a guy.)

It's usually just as weird/perverted as the director's imagination or as much as their clients require it to be. Consider, they have to make something that can sell and the old cliché plots start to run thin so they experiment. Not all experiments are successful. I’m not sure about the censorship standards in Japan but they certainly have more freedom in this area than in the US. Take Chôjin densetsu Urotsukidôji, when it came out it was banned in more countries than it was allowed. If it was released today there wouldn’t be much of anything to comment on. The point is that values change and today’s weird is tomorrow’s normal.

Japanese film industry allows more artistic freedom for the creators compared to American counterparts (with heavy censoring), so it is inevitable they can get away with some weird stuff.

because the japanese creators are a bunch of perverts and weirdly creative. maybe because they have mental disorders and also it may be their way of portraying their view on society, i doubt it. i guess when weirdo's make something the product can only be weird.
