Most of my childhood memories are not "greatest" they are traumatic. All of the memories are more or less ironic. Like the time I got to go to Boston, Mass. because I got an "A" on a history exam. I loved history. We were studying the American Revolution and the original 13 colonies. They dangled the carrot. Everyone who gets an "A" on the exam gets to go with the seniors to Boston. I was in the sixth grade. Only two students in the sixth grade earned a place on the charter bus. My parents were reluctant to let me go but I wore them down. I got a new outfit! I was geeked! I bragged to everyone I knew and a few people I didn't. Got on the bus. Twenty minutes into the trip I realized I didn't have any food. Mother didn't pack my lunch. The teacher told me I'd be able to buy some snacks and lunch at the first stop. However, my father forgot to give me spending money and my camera didn't have film or batteries. All I needed was a dog bite and a bee sting. The excursion through the famous streets of Boston was the "greatest" experience I have ever had. But what I remember most was the return trip. When the bus arrived back at the school at one o'clock in the morning, no one was there to pick me up. My parents were no where to be found. I walked home! I've been all over the world, I'm going to Asia next month. I pack my own snacks. I have an American Express card that I never leave home without and I never take pictures. This may not be the greatest childhood memory but it helped shape my life.

Going to Grandma's house at Christmas and searching her tree for the gold walnut with my name on it. She would take english walnuts and crack em and take the meat out, then spray paint em gold. Let them dry and put a half dollar inside and glue em shut with a name tag attached so she could hang them. Each grandchild always got one like that every year.

Spending time with my aunts and uncles and cousins in the summer during my Dads vacation. They would either travel to visit us, or we would go to their homes and visit.

Sometimes I wished the summer would never end.
