Bud Selig. He's not a real commissioner, he's the owners puppet. He will not address the serious issues that are presently destroying the game. Among his short comings is the steroid issue. He continues to turn his back on Barry Bonds because he knows that the so called home run chase brings in major revenue to baseball. The owners don't want that to stop. If Selig had any guts he would tell the owners to kiss off and throw Bonds out of the game. As it is the day Bonds passes Aaron will be a very sad day for baseball. To the true fan Bonds will never hold the record because chemically enhanced stats add us to "zero". The sooner baseball gets rid of Selig the better.

Bud Selig, no contest.

He came to the position as "Acting" commishioner when the owners voted to fire Fay Vincent in the early 90s because Vincent correctly said the owners colluded against the players over free agency. At the time, Selig owned the Milwaukee Brewers, so he and the other owners, including a then-suspended George Steinbrenner, decided to fire Vincent so they could get away with their collusion. Of course, by 1994, the players caught on and the strike destroyed that great season. Eventually, Selig was unceremoniously and "quietly" named commishioner and all the integrity that was instilled with the position following the 1919 Black Sox Scandal, went out the window.

Bud Selig is the worst commisioner because he works for the owners and historically speaking, the Commisioner of Baseball is supposed to be objective and fair and not work for the owners or the players but be the fans' representative and do what's best for baseball.

Eventually, MLB's corruption will destroy it and that destruction starts with Bud Selig, scumbag extraordinaire.

Allan Selig. He was originally an owner, so he really is not unique. He was a yes man to the majority owners. I personally blame him for not resolving the 1994-5 baseball strike. Thanks be to God, the All-Star Game held in his hometown Milwaukee was tied. He instituted that whole winning the All-Star for homefield advantage in the World Series diminishes the funniness associated with the Mid-Summer Classic. The late-Bowie Kuhn was a lawyer for MLB so he too was sort a yesman. I was watching an ESPN Classic on Henry Aaron and Kuhn response why he was not in Atlanta when Aaron hit 715 off of Al Downing was because he was invited to attend the Cleveland Indian booster club dinner/fund-raiser.

Lots of good answers but this one nailed it:

Couldn't have said it better.

Bart Giamatti. In the 1973 Nl playoffs Pete Rose went hard into 2nd and knocked down Bud Harrelson to break up a double play. Harrelson shoved Rose and a short fight broke out. The NY fans got loud and mean. Rusty Staub, Wayne Garrett and Tom Seaver had to walk in the outfield to quiet them down. The game continued but one of the VPs from the Mets demands that Bowie Kuhn suspend Rose. When Bowie refused, the VP said that if he had his way Rose "would be banned from baseball forever."
That VP was named Bart Giamatti and the only thing he did as commisioner was to ban Rose.
Talk about holding a grudge.

No one ever remembers William Eckert in the 1960's, between Ford Frick and Bowie Kuhn. No one had heard of him at the time, and he didn't do anything at all while on the job.

And that was the problem. Baseball's popularity was under attack from football in the 1960's, and baseball under Eckert's "leadership" was defenseless. Baseball rolled over and played dead, and football went past and claimed its status as the nation's most popular spectator sport.

Frick didn't do much either. Peter Ueberroth's biggest contribution was collusion over free agent, which cost the owners millions in damages. But he at least tried some marketing techniques to sell the game.

The first ever. Kenisaw Mountain Landis. He is responsible for unfairly banning Shoeless Joe Jackson from baseball, and he kept African Americans out of the league for his entire time as commisioner, preventing a phenomenal pitcher like Satchel Paige from being able to pitch in the majors during his prime.

Selig because no one is afraid of him I believe that he's only promoting the 'roids situtation and I'm gonna speak in Barry's defense that if I were Barry I'd sue Selig for what he's done to him It's been a one man witch hunt since the word GO Selig was lucky along the way he weeded out a few cheaters, but that was only in attempt to weed info out of them 'bout Barry and to make things VERY CLEAR Barry Bonds has been tested for 'roids every year since '02 and how many times has he been caught for 'roids ZERO do I think he's a cheater?NO, Do I think he's an arrigant Jerk? Actually, all of them were pretty bad except for Bart Giamatti and Happy Chandler.

Add Peter Ueburroth and Bowie Kuhn to the list of bad commissioners.

--Ford Frick: gave Roger Maris terrible "asterisk"
--Bowie Kuhn: Introduced the DH, yuck
--Peter Ueberroth: did nothing about cocaine scandal
--Bud Selig: presided over the damn 1994 Strike; horrible Inter-league, big market clubs dominating small clubs

It's amazing that baseball endures despite bad comissioners but only because it's the greatest game.
