In your example the bad guy has to be considered as the good guy, because he is honest, and the good guy as the bad guy because he is a hypocrite.

It really depends on the situation. I think that usually, the bad guy is the one who starts the conflict and is the one that means harm, rather than wanting what's best for the majority of people. The good guy puts a stop to whatever the bad guy is doing. I don't think it's a matter of whether whatever it is is done privately or not.

That depends on what you mean by good guy and bad guy. What kinds of behavior are you referring to?
If the action in question is something like judging other people, then yes, everyone does it. Judgment is how people come to understand the world around them, categorizing things and people in order to draw conclusions. Some types of judgment are considered discrimanatory (and some of them are discrimanatory), but everyone judges, the "good guy" is simply the one who doesn't go around using racial slurs, etc.
However, if the action in question is violence, infidelity, thievery, etc., then the good guy definitely doesn't do those things. Someone might be considered a good guy despite doing those things, if he manages not to get caught, but there is a definite and distinct difference between the type of person who does those things and the type of person who doesn't, and NOT everyone does.

Strongly DISAGREE!
The good guy does the right things even when no one is watching.
Anyone who is a phony & committing evil in secret, is still a bad guy. Some just get away with it for a while.
I remember asking one of my boyfriends a hypothetical question. Would he cheat, if some incredibly gorgeous woman came on to him & no one would ever know about it would he do it.
"No. I would know. I couldn't betray someone I loved. My conscience wouldn't let me."
That, incidentally, was the right answer.

The one who does bad things "discreetly", as you said, is a lot more dangerous to other people than the one who does it openly. In your... "theory" (yeah, right!) the good guy is evil! How come nobody saw this?!
(Man, and they call it the "philosophy section"...)

Guy or girl...
How can you define good and bad. One may feel that some action is good, that may be bad for others.
For every guy, there will be good as well as bad habits. The ratio differs.
If most of the people have seen only the good habits of a guy then he is called as good guy.

No I don't think so. The good guy does the good things. If a person does bad things, but in private, it doesn't make it good! That person would be a secret bad guy.

I agree somewhat. People like to put labels on other people and the only way you put a label on someone is if you know their reputation. Yet sometimes a bad guy is actually a good guy and vice versa. Its all in their reputation.

The good guy never harms another, or costs another person anything, or infringes on another person's freedoms.
The bad guy harms others, takes or demands from others, or restricts others' freedoms to live as they choose.
The politician is the same as the bad guy, but has the added talent of convincing others that he's really the good guy.

there's nothing really different between the two. it just depends on the perspective of the person who the bad guy or the good guy is....
hmmm, an example....
abortion is illegal in my country and we might say that people who abort their babies are "bad guys" but when weighed against not being able to raise the child well, abortion seems the logical thing to do.
that was a bad example T_T but anyway, i hope you get the drift of of answer... (btw, i am against abortion)
