like at gas stations. I see them all the time, picking one can at a time. And what I wonder is, why don't they just take from the Recycle cans that are put out all over town on trash day? I can spot at least 75 along the curbs within our small city.... and I have never seen a homeless person take the cans from there... and I always wondered why? Would you not get more cans that way? It seems like it would be easier than randomly digging through the trash... to pick the specific can that will make you money. what do you think?

I am not one to make fun of a persons situation.. or gawk, but if you are going to pull cans out of the trash, I'm just saying why not do it more efficiently.... go to the cans that are designated for recycling.....that's all.

I think it's sad that people have to resort to picking up cans to make it in the "Land of Opportunity"

I truly think of that some ingredient must be carried out to get human beings and the society as an entire to a factor the place we recycle each thing achievable. we are making stride yet no longer very nearly adequate is being recycled. answer this, why are there no longer recycling classes set as much as permit 2 or thrice the quantity of waste that's on the instant the case? With all of the homeless human beings residing on the line, why can no longer they be paid for figuring out on up waste and turning it in for recycle. can we no longer recycle a newspaper that has been mendacity interior the line for each week? upload a tax ( ooh a discomfort comprehensive be conscious!!!)to pay the homeless to pickup rubbish and return it for recycle. (hello, Then we'd basically finally end up with the cleanest city interior the international. does not that be some thing? chuffed recycling!!!

homeowners don't like to look outside and see people digging through their "personal" trash, or uninvited people on their property (even if it is just at the curb).
However, in most cities the homeowners also have to pay a fee to have their recyclables collected. I
'm sure if it was brought to their attention that they could save money and help some people for free, most people wouldn't have an issue letting the homeless collect their cans (except the cities who would lose money from the collection fees).

I think it might actually be illegal to do that in some places... even if it's not, police officers would definitely shoo them along, because nobody wants a homeless person picking through the "garbage" in the front of their house. (I mean even if it doesn't bother you personally, you know one of your neighbors would be on the horn complaining to the cops.)
The thing is, even if you started some huge campaign where everybody in the neighborhood placed their cans in a bin specifically so homeless people could make an extra dime- they would never be the ones that got the money. Drunks and drug addicts would steal the cans quicker then you could blink.

not so much right now, but when i lived in brazil, it was a common occurance...u would always see the people with their "recycling" carts (2 wheeled carts made of old wood, cardboard, whatever...usually pulled by a person, but sometimes by a half-dead horse), usually with one or more children in tow (sometimes even babies in the back of the cart, amongst the trash)...they search thru all the trash on the street to find something they can use, eat, sell, or recycle to help them sustain their meager existence...it was really an eye-opener when i first got to brazil, but unfortunately it`s so commonplace that u quickly become accustomed to the sight of them...

yes, omg there is one here i see him EVERYWHERE.
How does he get around so fast , i wonder?
He has this "scooter" he rides on, it is like from wal-mart or some other grocery store. You know the ones, like disabled people ride on.
Anyways, it has a basket in the front and he keeps his dachshund in it.And he has a big plastic bag on the back that he keeps cans in.
I see him sleeping outside at night on his scooter and his little dog on a towel inside the basket, so sad.

Maybe they also pick them up there but when you're not looking, or maybe it's for safety reasons or in order to avoid being noticed.
