Maybe its broken or you dont have the driver for the cdrom.

I agree with the above...If the tray gets slightly out of alignment the laser x-y axis is off and can't read.

Replace it. Now a days new ones are very chip. Or Go for 2nd hand. Truly to repair it would be more expansive than to own new one.

Do you have the program installed? It needs drivers too and if you have a program, you may need to remove it and re install.
