2 strokes always beat a 4 stroke the motors are firing twice as much. they rev up quicker and run More rpm's. a four stroke has an advantage at low engine speeds because theres more moving parts so they have more turning mass. a 4 strokes power is also more controllable. a 2 stroke likes to "RIP" when it goes. a 250 2 stroke will usually beat a 500 4 stroke. hope this helps good luck

.
I'm sorry guys but a 2 stroke will not out accelerate a 4 stroke in it's same class. One of the biggest disadvantages of a 2 stroke is that they always lose the hole shot to a 4 stroke. Of course I do mean a 450 4 stroke versus a 250 2 stroke. I have raced both and the 4 stroke wins the drag race hands down every time. That's what James Stewart kept complaining about when Kawasaki was the only team still on 2 strokes. As soon as they came out with the KX450F Bubba started getting hole shots. The 2 stroke only feels quicker by the seat of the pants because the power hits so much harder. There is a very good reason why basically no one races MX on a 2 stroke anymore. The 2 strokes are favored by many A class woods riders though.

seems you get all sorts of misinformation on here because you dont always ask the question you want the answer for...

it depends on the gear box of the bike....& wether the bikes are moving or stationary to start with...
Stationary....
4 strokes pull at low revs...so initially the 4 stroke is pulling better..

2 strokes when in the power band produce more power than a 4 stroke at the same RPM..
so the 2 stroke catches up pretty quick
once up & moving as long as you keep the motor in its optimal Rev range (by changing up & down gears) there is not much between them..but four strokes usually have a wider power range than two strokes...
given enough gears the 2 stroke wins because the response is quicker..producing more power over a smaller Rev range..

& thats why the 125 grand prix bikes of yester year had 18 speed gearboxes....LOL

The two stroke will usually win. But now if you watch super cross they use 4 Strokes and they can haul the mail. There isn't quite as much advantage with a 2 stroke as the bike manufacturers have been making the 4 strokes lighter and they rev a lot quicker than just a couple years ago.

The 4 stroke. 2 stroke does have better weight to skill ratio thats why its swifter engine in a short run a 4stroke has better skill yet decrease weight ratio meaning it is going to take longer to kick off yet after it does it is going to triumph over a 2 stroke if you're speaking about motorcycles a 2stroke ought to win a 100m race something over the 4 stroke will win that's likewise why human beings driving motorcycles up steep hills etc specially use 4 stroke because there time-honored skill is a lot greate rthen a 2 stroke. There are united statesand dowsn to both.

2 strokes hands down pull way harder than any thumpers, thumpers have great low end torque though for crawling along real slow. some new four strokes are pretty impressive though i am not impressed enough to give up my 2 stroke.
