I know its all deterministic, but in what way does it tell us about our world, etc.?

Hey study some quantum mechanics.. it aint all what it seems!! Quantum mechanics tells us that the act of observing an object changes it! On a big scale this is not obvious.. but when you get down to the particles.

What else does science tell us? Its all mostly space. Imagine a football arena. A paper clip in the center of the arena is the nucleus. The electrons are going around the edge of the entire arena (not just the field) if you were to scale an atom up to that size. So what? so then you must realize that electrostatic repulsion keeps all atops from actually touching each other = more space. SO now we know its mostly space. But what about matter.

Einstein teaches us that E=mc^2. Which means when you accelerate matter, it turns into energy. They are interchangable. But if you reject that idea, just think about the particles. The electrons and protons and what not. They are not only particles, they are waves AT THE SAME TIME. They are a wave until you give then a position in space by looking at them or measuring them, then they become a particle. Whoa. You and me as a collective are finxing these particles into place. we are creating our own reality.?

Depends on what theory you study. Classic mechanics gives us a deterministic view.

Many scientists, as individuals, are very reductionist. THey break everything down into little parts, abstracting away from the larger picture.

Exerything i have said is not to speak about how much we do know! It's to point out how much we DONT know.

To find out more: relativity theory, quantum mechanics, heisenberg uncertainty principle. wave/particle duality.

First of all, reality is not deterministic. Quantum mechanics has pretty well proven that true randomness exists.

Science is a METHOD, not a belief system. It is a systematic form of rationality whose biggest benefit is that it allows us to verify--and therefore KNOW--that the conclusions we reach about the world around us are true.

Science is far and away the best tool we have--possibly even the only tool we have--for separating belief & dogma from evidence & reality. Humans have a nasty tendency to want to very strongly believe in some quite silly notions and superstitions, and will even kill each other rather than admit (even to themselves) that their beliefs are fantasies. Yes I'm talking about religion here, but I'm also talking about all sorts of other things like political dogmas and pseudoscience.

There's an artificial kind of happiness that people can get from taking drugs, but this is not the same as true contentment. Just the same, viewing the naturalistic world clearly with rationalism and empiricism is liberating in a way unimaginable to those who would rather wrap themselves up in a warm & fuzzy, but ultimately made-up, belief system.

Modern science is a way of explaining the details of our world. Like small details, REALLY small. I think it is beautiful, the way in which human beings are so interested in life. We are doing a great job at analyzing and studying the universe. We have discovered so much, and will continue always to discover, as long as our species exists. From biology to physics, modern science explains reality.

Science is just an objective tool humans have learned for observing the world around us with our senses. Humans, even with a lucid method for exploring the world like science, has a LOT more to learn before we truly have an objective comprehension of "reality". But, just for your pleasure, because I seek the answer to your question, I read of one small discovery about reality that I love. Researchers in the Netherlands, measuring the electromagnetic brainwaves or "frequencies" that humans emit, discovered that the brainwave we emit that matches the mean, or average, so to say, electromagnetic "frequency" of the entire Universe is the brainwave we emit when we are feeling compassion. For whatever that's worth, compassion is a part of the reality of our known Universe as a totality. Cool, huh?

Reality is... we are not greater then whatever it is that lords over... or sustains existence...

Reality is we do not live in harmony with and within it...

At the same time we collectively ignore or forgive or make excuses for the reality of our collective ways...

Modern science or in fact any other reasoning could not defend or in fact successfully explain the deprevity of our reality...

So how is it possible that modern science could explain the reality of something we fail to comprehend or even get along with harmoniously?
