My son has collected a few of those pennies you put in the flattener machimes and get them inscripted. I'm looking for an album to put them in? They have them at the OKC Zoo but we are an hour away. Does anyone know what they are called? The Albums to put them in? Thanks!!

My husband and I have been collecting these for years! We always carry around a film canister with quarters and another with pennies (minted before 1982) just for this!

Check out this site - you'll love it!

You can buy the albums here as well.

Well the cents are called "elongated cents". In recent years larger denominations have also been used even the small dollars. So they are called elongated dollars. Making the cents goes back at least to 1893 and the Columbian expo held that year. It may go back further than that, but at least we know they were made then. There are a lot of collectors of these cents. They even make special 2 X 2 Mylar holders for them. The holder fit the 20 pocket coin pages that fit a tree ring binder. Even though I don't really collect them I was offer 200 different ones at a real good price so I bought them. I will at a later date, give them to my grandson. Go to www.brooklyngallery.com they are a large mail order coin supply store, with good prices. Look and see what they have to offer. A near by coin dealer can also order you the mounts, they staple together and the pages. Then all you need is a common 3 ring binder. Hope this helps.

They're elongated coins, but I like to call them squishy pennies.

This site is extensive, but I love the page that lets you find squishy penny machines all over the world: http://www.pennycollector.com/locations.html I found some in my area I didn't know about, and I alway check it before I travel.

There's even a Squished Penny Museum: http://www.squished.com/homenew/index.html

Some places call them tokens. Or Smashed Pennies.
