Go and re-read the part where Huck decides if helping Jim means he'll go to hell, he'll go to hell. It's pretty much considered to be one, if not the pivotal point of the book. So reading that part again will help you on whatever other work you have to do on the book.

He assumes religion is good because the respectable people say so. This means, of course, that he gets his idea of religion from others. When he decides to help Jim even if (as he has been told) it means he will go to hell, he makes a moral decision which he does not connect with religion. He thinks that he is a kind of low life and it doesn't matter so much if he does "sinful" things like helping Jim, but he is disappointed when he thinks Tom is also going to help Jim avoid capture. He thinks Tom is more respectable.
