Imus shouldn't have said what he said if that's what you're referring to, and neither should all the rich rappers and hip hop and black comedian millionaires. Double standard otherwise.

It depends on what your job is. If it is something that takes skill and you are performing it well I would say no. If your job is to run your mouth and divide the world into those who believe whatever you are ranting about versus those who you are seeking to offend, then I think you will lose that job when you become a liability to those who are paying your wages. At that point they will always dump you if you are perceived as going to cost them money.

If you insult somebody then you should be held accountable. Jobs are based on performance and if you don't live up to the employer's standard, then you should be punished. It depends on the offense on how one should be repremanded. In the case of Imus he insulted women and African Americans. That's a lot of people to offend, especially since these girls did nothing to provoke such hatred. And since he does have access to the airwaves he should be fired. Had it been a person in a cubicle making the same joke, nobody would know, but he knew people were listening and his job is to keep listeners.
Off my soapbox.

I think that it depends on the job and what the offense is, I don't think that it should cost you your job unless you are a repeat offender

yes in some cases, because I would not want someone working for me that so naive and foolish as to not know what is and isn't appropriate at work, or thinks they need to spread their shallow oppinions to everyone. When you do dumb things at work you become a liability for the company so why should they have to put up with you doing dumb things?

Generally, no. It would depend on the situation. It would have to be something pretty serious to cost your job I would think.

Never, but I think there are underlying issues that are making my job become one of those jobs. In God's timing, I know I will find another one.

The line has to be drawn somewhere, sometime or some would be acting like as ses because they could get away with it. It can border on being a workplace bully.

No. Just talk it out & get things out in the open....everyone can't possibly get along....that would be too easy.. part of the job is working as a team regardless of differences.
