The top thread goes through the needle and the bottom thread comes from the bobbin which is usually somewhere under the machine. The bobbin will run out faster then the spool of thread so you will have to rewind that. Usually on the top of your machine there will be a thing that you put your spool on and it will move so that you can wind your bobbin on it.

if your machines needle hole is in the front the threads are held to the back as you make your first stitch, if the hole in your needle goes sideways hold the threads to either side as you make your first stitch, the top thread goes through the needle. the bottom is called the bobbin thread, and it will run out quickly then you have to take the bobbin out, so when you do remember how it goes back in , then you must wind thread on the bobbin, the machine does that but every machine is different, dont you have the machines instructions? you really need them.
