I posted this question once in the Military section and I was surprised by the responses I received from soldiers.
They all said they took an oath to defend our country from enemies foreign and domestic and would arrest American citizens if told to do so!

With the 2007 Defense Authorization Act President Bush has given himself the power to implement Martial Law at will!
How would you react?
With all of the new laws within the Patriot Act and others NO ONE would have any recourse to prove themselves innocent!!!
The government doesn't even have to charge anyone or provide any reason!!!

From the research I've done the government has weapons that will make your guns useless. There were widespread reports from the blacked out 1989 Panama invasion of laser or microwave weapons being tested that "melted soldiers with their guns". There have been some similar reports in the foreign news from Iraq in both 1991 and now. There is also the "Active Denial System" which has been reported in the main stream US press which can heat your skin to 130 degrees from 1500 feet...nobody has lasted more then 3 seconds in a test before switching it off. These are all "light speed" weapons since they don't fire a projectile they "fire" a beam of energy.

They don't care if we have our guns because they always have us outgunned and they can get the brainwashed segment of society (the ones for bombing Iran right now) to use their guns on the "liberals".

On top of that with an economic collapse, which reports today say the government is planning for in 2008, people wont have money for bread let alone bullets...they will go to the "work camps" willingly for food.

Very interesting question and topic! Overall the response would be an extremely negative one... it could lead to civil war, possibly a revolution etc... Not to mention the possibility of assassinations increasing 1000 fold overnight!

Another thought... About what soldiers have said to this question in another area. Yes, they've taken oaths etc and have responsibilities duties etc... But arresting because of "unlawful" conduct is much different than killing our own citizens. How many of those same individuals would KILL their own family members, friends etc if told to do so knowing there wasn't ANY just cause? At some point all soldiers would realize (regardless of how brainwashed they might be) that bloods thicker than water and being HUMAN overrides orders. The gov. says: "Kill that woman"! And 'that woman" would be the persons mom or sister....... Yes? No? You tell me, what would happen. Not to mention the whole thing about believing in God..... "Thout shalt NOT kill".... The book doesn't say its ok if the gov. says its ok or if someone runs a plane into a building! It says: NOT. How can anyone claiming to be a christian or even believing in some form of "God" allow themselves to do that or support it being done?????????????????

Most people here in the US that think about this question and others similar to it should really take the time to do some research on the 30' & 40' era Nazi's. (History does repeat itself). Many of the same things are happening NOW!

The REAL "terrorists" of the world are the corrupt governments that have gone mad with absolute power. Their actions envoke reactions! As everyone becomes more aware of things such as the Patriot Act & DAA people will begin to realize that there's numerous processes already underway, none of which have or will have positive end results!

Good luck & best wishes!

My guess would be civil war and I can tell you this.. It would be a bad day for the unlucky fools tasked with taking guns from law abiding citizens.

The soldiers who said they'd turn on American citizens are traitors in my opinion..Especially considering the first part of their oath states
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
If the second Amendment was tossed aside the government would be the enemy and it would be their job to defend the Constitution and the people.. And not the idiots in Washington.

That is when civil war breaks out. Patriotic Americans will resist any such action, unfortunately it is not only our own military we have to fear, but also the privately funded mercenary army's that are being trained on American soil such as Black Water. The United Nations also has been given protected Government land on which to train NATO troops. Mexican Troops were already on American soil, holding weapons on US citizens during Katrina (first time that has happened since the Mexican/American war). I would say we will be a little out numbered, yet valiant in our effort to preserve our Nation. Give me liberty or give me death!

I agree that the Patriot Act is a very scary thing, and too many people don't seem to be able to grasp that fact. We the people were lied to about the real purpose of the Patriot act. They told us that it was to protect us from terrorists, but it was to coax us into willingly giving up our freedoms, thinking it only temporary and limited to only certain people, many fell for the lie, and actually still think it is a good ideal. They will be in for a rude awakening when they find out that what we so called conspiracy theorists have been trying to tell them is the truth after all. *sm*

maximum states are pondering or passing guidelines that prohibits skill hungry mayors with a God complicated from doing what Nagan the Nazi did after Katrina. the only element he did became practice what gun advocates were asserting for decades. in case you get rid of the guns of regulation abiding voters it make it allot a lot less complicated for thugs to rape and pillage. Sorry i became on my cleansing soap field for a second. heavily, contact your state legislatures, tell them you want your rights threat-free in an emergency, then do a similar on the federal factor.

Kelly, you have so much to learn. Be careful when using the "www", because much of what you read there is not true. Be sure to validate what you read with information from highly credible sources.

You ought to look up the "Posse Comitatus" act of 1878. This federal legislation says that it is not lawful to use the Army to enforce public law, unless specifically authorized by Congress.

With as complacent as the US populace, the main groups outside of the military that are weapons trained are the angry poor.

It is quite likely they are going to get much more angry as the dwindling fossil fuels problem collides with the baby-boomers retirement bill. It is unlikely there will be assets available as the economy spirals down.

Don't worry. It wouldn't take long for there to be nobody left to take away the guns. Even our own armed forces, with all their firepower, would balk at such an enterprise. Those who remember that they swore allegiance to the Constitution, would mutiny at the order to confiscate all firearms. The rest would soon understand the better part of valor when they see their ranks falling away like the D.C. cherry blossoms.
