A republican equates democracy to 'mob rule.' They're traditionally aristocrats who don't believe most ppl are intelligent enough to participate in the governing process. The People's REPUBLIC of China, the Union of Soviet Socialist REPUBLICS, and most other countries have republics, but the people don't necessarily elect the representatives in Congress, Parliament, etc., nor the President, Prime Minister, etc.
Democrats believe that people are wise enough to participate, as well as to elect all elected officials.
All countries have conservative and progressive people. In this country, most conservatives now support the Republican Party.
Like most Conservative parties in the world, the U.S. Republican Party prefers active political participation by the male members of the ruling class and dissuades participation by females and the working class.
It believes in protecting the property and wealth of the ruling class by opposing the rights of the underclass. Since conservatism often agrees with classic religious beliefs, most conservative parties pander to religious organisations for their support.

Well you would have to look that one up. Don't think there is a textbook definition...but most are supposed to be conservative. Are there certain criterion for being Republican....maybe
Typically a Republican
believes in smaller government
lower taxes
less welfare more workers
help for business so they can hire more people and expand
an educated population
more rights for victems
gun rights
For a long time a Republican was a conservative but that isn't really true these days..hence the last election cycle. When they get back to their conservative roots then they will have a chance to gain the majority again. I so pray they will get back to their conservative roots. I can't take much more of the liberal agenda garbage

Republican is just a party.
The important part to you would be the recognition of ideologies.
And political ideologies are many , but can be broken down into 2 main categories. Liberalism and Conservatism.
The general assumption is that Republicans are for the most part conservatives and that democrats are for the most part liberals.
This has become increasingly fragmented and not always true though.
What I would suggest you first determine is... what is it that you believe in.
What you believe the role of government is?
This is a key factor.
Look up the general terms and read them.

A republican (me ) would be someone who believes in low taxes for everyone no matter what income and small amounts of spending from the government. Alot of funding for the military and less subsidies. We believe strongly in capitalism and letting the market solve the problems in the economy.
On moral issues we believe in pro-life, pro-gun, pro-death penalty

a text book Republican is a narrow minded person that asks questions like this:
I know liberals are lazy good-for-nothings, but are they really too lazy to think? Or do they lack the brain?
power to do so? There must be some explanation to their idiocy...
