rediculous question hippos dont live where bears are

and in their own environment each would be better placed

in the water the hippo would kill a bear easily with a bite and its enormous teeth

probably on the land as well the hippo can actually run and a bear does not run very fast

so its the hippo all round
a hippo can bite a canoo in half a bear can only crumple it

I guess it would depend on what kind of bear (grizzly, black bear, polar bear) and where the "match" took place (on land, in the water). Hippos can actually be quite aggressive, especially the males-and have very sharp teeth and tend to "butt-heads" with their opponents (that's why their eyes are far apart). I think that if the bear was in the water and the hippo was in a bad mood-the bear would be hurtin afterward :)

The hippo would win because of its much larger mass. Bears are probably the fiercest predators on earth and in a fight with an animal of similar size would definitely be the winner. They would probably even defeat a super predator like the large velociraptors depicted in Jurassic Park. I've referring to a Kodiak or Grizzly for this answer.

Since there aren't any bears where there are hippos and no hippos where there are bears, it follows that hippos win in hot wet country and bears win in cold dry country.

According to canislup about one year ago or so it is the hippopotamus the winner!! He states, and I quote:

"Hippo. They are immensely strong and powerfull. When males are fighting they use their huge teeth (longer than a 12")and impressive bulk, its hard to imagine what a grizzly could do with his comparatively puny canines and meager body."
