There are several possibilities, but a tumor or a bacterial infection top the list.

A tumor you can do nothing about and once the fish stops eating it would be time to humanely euthanize the fish.

If it's a bacterial infection it would be readily treatable with antibiotics. I would suggest Maracyn or Maracyn 2 for a surface infection like you mention.

Personally I would try the treatment for 10 days and if the fish shows no improvement but is still alive, be prepared to put it down.

well depends how big the tank it has is. some people put big fish in little tanks and the fish runs into the walls, and gets a calice. (a bruised dump)

Allergic reaction perhaps?
