I've seen many people answer that we are in Iraq because we support freedom and liberty.

Do you think that if our troops would come home, we would not be free and not have all the liberties we have now ?

Do you think all human rights and civil liberties, everything we have now, would go away if we pull our troops from Iraq ?

Thanks.

I've said it 1000 times:

There has not been a single act of domestic terrorism since 9/11...which was OVER HALF A DECADE AGO!!! I was in friggin' high school at the time...now I've graduated with 2 different degrees from 2 different Universities and have a job as a Chemist.

The fear of domestic terrorism is nothing more than an "Imaginary Monster" created by the government which allows them to do whatever they please inside and outside our borders. They can invade whomever they want, they can keep surviellance on any of us, they put the label of "Potential Terrorist" on virtually anyone and then imprison them without attorney or trial.

Being in Iraq does not make me any safer, by any means. If we pulled out (which I hope we do, of course), I would stll be hanging out here in my small beach cottage on my tiny island.

(...and don't get me started on 9/11...oh Jesus...)

We were not free on 9/11/01 - we were in a trance of false security.
We had followed a policy of no response or effective action against the Islamic terrorists who had perpetrated terror, acts of war and murder against Americans all over the globe for more than 25 years.
This time we responded - and, yes, we are indeed fighting for freedom and liberty in Iraq. Agree or not, it has become the focal point of our war on terror.
Perhaps if we brought all of our troops home, we would not be in immediate danger. Or, perhaps, we would lose a lot more of our human rights and liberties as we defend against terror attacks on our own home front.
It's a complex mess we find ourselves in. I personally believe the Islamic radicals have proved themselves to be an extremely serious threat - one that we can not ignore if we are to prevent another 9/11.

I wonder if people in France were asking the same question during the Revolutionary War. Were people in the states asking the same question during WW1? How about WW2?

I guess it depends on whether or not one sees the world and mankind as being larger than his or her nation...or his or her self.

And you are very welcome.

We are not fighting for OUR freedom
We're fighting for theirs.
