If once you dropped the products they fell contained in the keep then technically you probably did not shoplift because the products by no potential left the keep. notwithstanding, that's as a lot because the keep manager even if or not they opt to press prices, yet legally that's an exceedingly confusing one. a minimum of you've realized that what you tried to do is stupid, and also you is only no longer doing it back. i'd also stay faraway from pastime for some months. Edit: in answer to mafiaboss_nz, in numerous the game shops I truthfully were interior the fee section is interior the midst of the keep, and that i have walked previous it on quite a few events wearing products that haven't any more started to be paid for, maximum shops now evaluate taking the products previous the safe practices limitations as shoplifting. i comprehend in Scotland that's turning out to be harder to prosecute on tried shoplifting, and many don't even difficulty attempting.

The real question is what did the paper you signed say. without knowing what was said on the paper I do not know how to answer your question. I would guess no but read the paper you signed carefully, if you do not like what is upon the paper and had no legal rep. contest it saying it was under distress and they threatened you to sign. Doing what is said earlier could get you some required volunteer hours, but could allow you to sue the store. Best thing to do is talk to a lawyer. Make sure to get a copy of the paper you signed before talking to a lawyer.

I just heard that several BIG stores are setting up a data base of shoplifters. As yoiu can verify, companies are cracking down, hard on shoplifters.

I'd phone them and ask just what happens, but do plan on paying the $ 200.00 ,

Good luck!

It will not show up on your record if police were not called.
The matter appears to have gone the civil route by the sound of things.
Police do not get involved in civil disputes.

Heres a tip 'DONT STEAL"

If you paid that amount, keep your receipt and the letter they sent you and forget about any record showing up. All the store wanted was a big fat profit which will probably go into the manager's pocket.

No.
That was pretty nice of them.
But $200 for a cd that costs less than $13?
That seriously sucks. Should've just payed for it. $200.........You could've bought more than 15 cds with that money. Such a waste.

Did they let you keep the CD?

If you weren't 'arrested' formally, and you pay the fine, it won't be on your record.

Make sure to keep the letter for the future. And get a copy of what you mail to them to prove you paid the fine.

no it will not show up at all, they have handled it as a civil matter without the court system.

No that was a civil settlement. You can pay it or not. All they can do is take you to civil court. It has nothing to do with criminal court.
