I have heard about Imus all day for two day and it never once said what he actually said. I had to come to this forum to hear conflicting statements. No one really seems to know what was actually said. It must be a top secret or it must be pretty bad for the media never to actually mention his statement. How it can remain such a big deal when they can't or won't report his comment on t.v. is way beyond me. As I write this, the live report from the governor's mansion just ended, and I still haven't heard what he said.

Imus = radio talk host said "nappy-headed hos" in reference to a women's basketball team.
"Nappy" was a term used to make fun of African American hair during slavery times. It is still used amongnst blacks within their race but unacceptable for another race to use that term.
"Ho" = Whore or prostitute. see websters for meaning.
Now think of girlfriends who call each other bitches (not that I agree w/that) and its okay but imagine how insulting it will be for some other girl or guy they've never met call them a B *****! If you and our siblings make fun of each other you may laugh about it but I'm sure once a stranger says the same thing you always say to your siblings you'd be upset too right?
Just watch, this Imus dude will soon write a book and make tons of money from all of this

"...and something else that I have absolutely no idea of what he was talking about (nappy-headed). I'm guessing it refers to being sleepy-headed..."
That's hilarious.
LOL.
No, really "ho" did not start with Eddie Murphy and nappy only refers to sleep when you are talking to your 2 year old. It refers to the natural hair texture of most black people.
here is a good link.

And as a black man, I say who cares about him using the term "nappy-headed ho". I've heard this term used so many times from comedians, musicians, etc (both black and white) that it is now a non-issue. I bet a Rutgers player or two have used the term before. So what if some old white guy used it. I think the bigger issue is someone in the media throwing an insult at people he does not know and with whom he has no interaction. That is what is inexcusable. It should be looked at in the same vain as if he had called them gangly amazon sluts with bad hair-do's. No racial (or sexist) connotation at all. Just an unwarranted insult.

From what I can tell, nothing much. He used an old Eddie Murphy (an extremely funny black, American comedian) line from Saturday Night Live (ho refering to whore) and something else that I have absolutely no idea of what he was talking about (nappy-headed). I'm guessing it refers to being sleepy-headed. Anyway, some folks who like to make something from nothing made a fuss and now this old dude (Imus) is going to get rich.

I think he should have only been fired if these ho's weren't nappy-headed.If they gor nappy hair, then he was just stating a fact. And who gives a ****,black people talk about whites all the time, and when they do it it's funny, not racist.Try watching a Def Comedy Jam,I guarentee you at least 3 out of five comedians will spend 5-10 minutes cracking on white people.

Black have been complaining for years about equality in America and how they don't get equal time.. Well here is a prime example of why black will never be seen as equal, they use every instance they can find to highlight their UNWILLINGNESS to be seen as equals. sharpton and jackson have made careers out of hate mongering and inflaming situations that would have barely even raised and eyebrow in any other race of TRULY assimilated AMERICANS. When the black community start acting as equals...they will be taking a huge step forward...It's all fun and games if a black rapper comedian or personality Say's something off colour...GOD forbid it goes the other way..

Don Imus is a radio show host who attempts to bridge the gap between "shock-jock" and serious host to politicians and authors.
In an attempt to be amusing, he made racist and sexist remarks about a college basketball team.
He is being properly chastised and humiliated.

I heard he referred to Rudgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos". Meaning ---"nappy-headed" is usually someone with coarse, unstraighted, uncombed hair- his slang I guess for unkempt African-American---and "ho" meaning Whore.
This to me is equally sexist as it is racist.
I hate Imus but I feel that our rights to free speech are being impeeded with his firing.
Why aren't mysogonystic rappers being taken to task by Sharpton et al. for their lyrics about ni***rs and bitches etc. The situation smacks of reverse racism.
It also looked to me as if half the women's team is white- stupid Imus.

The remark he made was actually in a film, and he used that line in jest to describe some female basket ball players that are black. He's apologised, been suspended, and fired all in one week. Leave the poor guy alone.
