Change yourself, and you will change the world.
Don't like high gas prices - then drive a bicycle (don't do one of those Prius', it really is a marketing tool and doesn't save one drop of energy).
Put your money where your mouth is - pursue your passion with gusto.
Do you think that Bill Gates was looking to change the world - no, he was pursuing his passion, and the rest just came.

This is a terriffic question. We all want to change the world, and I can't think of anyone who would want to change it for the worse, to change the world to a place where there is more violence or more hatred, or racism, or theft or murder; you get my point. We all want to improve our lives, our quality of living and yet, we do not practice the tenets of good living with each other. As much as many people denigrate Christianity and Judiasm, the practices in these religions are what most of our national laws are based on. We, as a people do not obey our own laws, we expect others to obey them, but consider ourselves exempt from them.
The case in point that is current is the Don Imus issue and how the black community has responded, as well as the slow to respond corporate community of radio and tv. Don Imus was parroting what many MTV gangsta rap artists say and do, but because it is white old Don, it is sinful.
We all speed on the highway, don't always stop for lights, drink and drive etc. and when we are caught violating the laws we squawk and do our best to get out of a penalty. We hire lawyers to win our battles, whether we are innocent or not. It seems the most important issue for a lawyer is the win rate of court cases, not whether or not justice was served. We as a people are to blame for that, we encourage lawyers to win rather than plead our cases for justice and a fair trial. How many people are caught red handed and still choose to plead not guilty, on the advice of their lawyers?
To change the world, we first need to change ourselves, one person at a time, to hoe our own gardens, weed our own gardens, remove the planks from our own eyes. If we each follow the laws and tenets of our country, follow the social mores and support others who do the same, the country and ultimately the world will change for the better.
If we continue to live the way we are living now, we will also change the world, for the worse. Endorsing birth out of wedlock, cohabitation, encouraging debt, this is all going to put our nation in the sewer, so that is how I think we can change the world, either do nothing, or do something, but it won't change itself, and it will never change for the better if we don't make a comitment to embrace positive change, each and every one of us, one person at a time.

Start a construction company with large earthmoving equipment. Use this equipment to change whatever portion of the world you occupy however you wish. You can change it to look almost any way you want.

A little bit at a time.
Pick something that needs doing, get some friends together, figure out how to fix it, then do it. Repeat as necessary.
