I've noticed that the water in my house is drying out my eyes, skin, and hair as if I had been swimming all day.
I'm looking at installing one on my house and am just wondering if it will make a difference. Are they expensive to maintain? Should I test my water first? Did you notice a difference after they installed theirs? Anybody got a product review?
Any info much appreciated!

I have owned 4 houses and the current one came with a water softener and whole house water filter. I am very impressed with both. The water softener uses about $4 per month of salt. WE notice that the shower stays very clean all the time, but the biggest difference is how much better your skin feels. Winter used to dry out my skin but not anymore.
The water filter needs to be replace about once every 3 years and cost about $90. Our water tastes as good as expensive bottled water and is very clean. We send samples to the filter company and they send back test results. I do not know what these unit cost new, but if/when they go bad, I will for sure replace them. Well worth the money.

Find out possible contamination (previous farm land? Pesticide?) match a filter to the contaminates. Water-softener look for price.

they work wonders you need to call a water softener company and they will test your tear to let you know what type of system you are in need of they are not much to maintain usually use a bag of salt every 2 to 3 months according to how much water you use they are pretty efficient these days

Hi,
I have lived with both, and hate water softeners. The reason being is that while showering you never feel like your soap has rinsed off. I would recommend finding a hotel that uses water softeners, and showering there to see if you wouldn't mind that feeling (it feels kinda slimy, like your still fully lathered).

I was considering one myself. After talking to a bunch of guys at work, they swear by them. It gets rid of the calcium deposits on the fixtures and will keep your water lines from getting clogged with the calcium, when water drops dry on the counter, it doesn't leave a white ring. They do work.
