If you live in the UK, why does the Queen of England send you a bday card when your 100? And on your 60th wedding anniv? Why is it done? What's the name of this tradition? Any sites that explain this further? Cheers!

You don't have to live in the UK. This courtesy is extended to former members of the Commonwealth as well. It began initially because reaching the century mark in age was once a very unusual event, ditto 60th anniversaries. Today, it isn't that rare for someone to reach 100, but the custom remains. It is, however, unusual for a couple to celebrate their 60th anniversary. It doesn't happen automatically, by the way. Someone has to write in a few months before the event notifying the Palace of the upcoming event. Or, in the case of a Commonwealth country, notify your MP and ask that the request be forwarded through official channels.

Because those are really special milestones. And with current divorce rates rocketing higher and higher, she might as well send a card to couples on their 10'th anniversary, lol.

Plus I'm sure not everyone gets that honour, don't you have to do something really special for the Queen to recognize you?

The info and link that is required to ask for a greeting is here...

When you have read the page click on the "Next Section" and so on...it's quite interesting...

Good Question by the way!

Well, After 60 years of marriage she cannot send the Purple Heart, as it's an American medal.

Cheers! Lookout teeth, lookout gums, watchout throat here it comes!

She actually sends a telegram on your 100th birthday, not a birthday card.

ohh, that would be soo cool. i think it's becuase it's a tradition and it would be sad if she just suddenly stops doing that and someone just turned 100.
