"smaller" candidates are the ones who less people have heard of, because they are ignored by the media. do you really think the media doesn't pay attention to people because they have no appeal? the media decides who will be presidential candidates and who won't.

A true democracy is not a two party system. It is many parties with different ideas that represent the will of the People, not the will of a few very rich individuals and the corporations they own. Why weren't members from other political parties, who have candidates, running for the Presidency, allowed to participate in the Presidential debates? Because the Presidential debates are a "staged Illuminati event" that's why.

They do not allow any other competing candidates to participate, just like they don't allow any of the Illuminati controlled media to cover and interview the other smaller party candidates. Another subversive thing that has been done in the U.S. "Presidential elections" is that the Republican and Democratic parties have made laws that "qualify" a political party to get tens of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars if they meet certain "criteria" .So the Republicans and Democrats and Illuminati blatantly screw the People even more by using the People's own tax dollars to keep out any legitimate candidates, who don't qualify for this money, but who do really and truly desire to work for the benefit of the people.

The Republican and Democratic parties spend billions of dollars on the Presidential election, so if you can't get together a billion or two billion dollars, you don't have a chance! Who could even afford to run in a Presidential election? If you only have two parties, then rich people and the Illuminati through their Fortune 500 corporations can make large contributions to both parties and thereby control both parties. So no matter who wins the election, these corporations and a few rich people get special favors and laws passed to make themselves even richer.

The most blatant example of this was the $1.3 trillion dollar tax cut for the rich. Only approximately 43,000 rich families, including the Bush and Cheney families, got to share over $1.2 of the $1.3 trillion dollars from this HUGE tax cut, and these rich families each got millions of dollars. Each of the over 100,000,000 American working "slaves" got a measly $300 or $600 check Did your President or any Senators or Congressmen who voted for this tax gift to the rich tell the American citizens this? Of course not! And even though the U.S. is running up huge budget deficits that could lead to a 1929 style depression, Bush and the Democrats and Republicans will not rescind this huge tax cut for the rich that would help balance the budget.

When is the last time you checked out the voting record of the candidate you support? The citizens are too lazy to check out their candidate's voting record. They've been brainwashed to trust their politicians who lie lie lie all the time. The People won't take the time to check out the voting record of their favorite candidates and the Illuminati know this, so the Illuminati can easily continue to con the people. If you would take the time to check out your candidate's voting record you would see this truth. Yeah, it should be obvious. The only people able to make into office have money -- this is threatening free speech. If free speech is supposed to be able to be truly free everyone should get free speech. Unfortunately only the powerful can engage freedom of speech to the whole nation. The corporations and the rich can avail themselves the costly free speech. Corporations keep the faithful at their trough. Corporations have no vote but they can put up the money to finance their candidates. Everyone must know that corporations run the country from the sidelines. That's a scary thought when these companies are the same ones who are out sourcing to other countries that pay impoverished wages to the poor and lack the necessary guidelines and laws that force them to run a clean business. An example of this is the making of car batteries in Mexico.

What the heck is a smaller candidate? If a person does not appeal to enough voters willing to donate money to him what is the point of having him run? In politics, money is speech. If you need 50 million to make a run you can have a few fat cats donate to you or you can have 50 million people send you one dollar.

If a candidate has the goods he should be able to start a small grassroots type organization and grow it into a successful candidacy.

You don't just wake up a few months before and election and decide to put your name on the ballot. You need a lot of support in every state to even get on the ballot.

The influence of large corporations is way overblown. Most every corporation donates to both parties just to try protect themselves from more restrictive regulation.

No matter how much money you have you cannot corrupt an honest person. If that person is not honest any amout of money can corrupt him.

Look at how much they've spent on their campaign, and how much they have left. I don't think Obama has enough to safely house peanuts, so I'm not sure what you were thinking they spend money on. I'm sure Paul could go produce a movie or something, since he has $5 or $6 million and a campaign that's "winding down".

What you say makes a good deal of common sense. Unfortunately, those who try to defend the current system always point to Freedom of Speech and so far the courts have ruled in their favor. If you limit how much can be spent, you are limiting the size of the message a candidate can produce.

That said, speech isn't free. Those with the most money always get the biggest megaphone. :(

It is a waste of money, and third party candidates are at a disadvantage, some because they cannot raise as much money, and some because they refuse to accept campaign donations.

The entire system is corrupt, its been that was for quite a while, and that won't change. Money leads to power, public exposure leads to power, but true value, character, and skill does not.

No, it's not obvious. Limiting how much someone raises is limiting what they spend on speech, and speech is free. What if I decided you spend too much time on Yahoo Answers and forced you to limit yourself to 10 minutes a day? That would be a limit on free speech.

As for favors to donors, most of the money still comes from individuals, not interests groups. And no matter how many favors they give, the ONLY way to get elected or reelected is to get votes, and votes don't come from corporations or donors.
