Once time I gave a dozen bagels to a hobo that lived in AZ. At first he was pi**ed, then two weeks later I saw him again and he had a sign that said "please give bagels." I laughed so hard I almost wrecked the car.
I thought if I gave him bagels he might get the idea to stop begging and go to a shelter. (there are quite a few in Phoenix.) Evidently it DID help him somewhat because he ended up on the news and shortly after that he became a professional sign holder. These guys in AZ get paid minimum wage to hold signs for stores, and they actually get into scuffles to vie for the best corner.
Ordinarily I dont have actual change on me, so no, I wouldnt give any away.

Yes, because we are to love others the way Christ loves us. If God could send His Son to earth to die for people that he allready knew were going to sin and hurt Him and disrespect His name, then surely I can help someone who is less fortunate than me. Now whether this person is a drunk or just really depressed over situations in life or mentally ill or whatever is not my concern. My concern is to give because God has given me so much in abundance, and that perhaps through doing so, God will touch their life.

However God also commands us to give with a happy heart. So, if you don't feel right about giving to hobos or anyone for that matter, you shouldn't, not unless you can do it, and be happy about it. Hope this gives you a little insight as to why I give. God Bless:)

No, I just give booze to hobos. It saves them a trip to the store.

Plus, who carries change or cash anymore? Hobos don't accept MC, Visa, Discover, or Amex either. They need to get with the times.

I do give change if i can.
I more often like to buy a bagel or something for them.
If you buy them something instead of giving money then you won't be giving them their "booze money".
But if you don't want to spend extra money just give them a little bit of change. They'll be greatfull.
Oh and sometimes being homeless is not a choice.
I was once homeless becuase my father lost his job, becuase of september 11th. And my mother was not bringing in much income.
So i want people to know sometimes it's not a choice.
Some change will do good. (:

i'm no longer going to assert no matter if I do or do no longer; it isn't proper. i have self belief sturdy deeds are publicity stunts if you're going to bypass round telling everybody about them. yet when I did, i'd supply them total expenses, or talk with them a lengthy time period about their aspirations or desires for themselves, and word if i could not do something about them. supply a guy a fish, he eats for an afternoon. practice a guy to fish.. and also you comprehend something. i'd favor to imagine that everybody else in the international has this way of compassion as well. The giver, the receiver, and the target market in touch of an act of kindness all get seratonin boosts that help their immune device.

There is this homeless man that drifts in and out of town, and I get him a sandwich or some kind of food whenever I see him. But the panhandler that stands by the post office mail boxes asking for spare change with a big ol' cigar in his mouth, I stiff.

If it's some drunk knocking on my car window, I speed off. If it's some family standing by the highway, I give money so that they can maybe buy a meal for the day. Not EVERYONE can help being homeless

you mean to the homeless.

yes, when i see them i give them a few dollars and sometimes buy them a meal or give them something from my car (i usually carry stuff with me).

i volunteer work with the homeless and know many of them and their stories.

we don't have adequate affordable housing or adequate homeless shelters in Atlanta or Metro-Atlanta Georgia. some ppl have to stay outside in all types of inclimate weather. some of those ppl are children and the elderly and the physically sick or handicapped and the mentally ill.

have you never had to ask for help at anytime in your life?
i've had to ask for help. and i am not ashamed for having asked.

Occasionally but mostly no because the ones asking are ones I know and they know if they are hungry I will make them a sandwich but I wont give them money. They just want it to buy their next drink/fix.
