I live In NY and worked in NY until May, then worked in NJ with the same company until the end of the year. What state returns do I have to file.

Sounds like NY as a resident, and NJ as a non-resident unless you moved there when the job moved, in which case both returns would be filed as a part-year resident.

Since NJ is where you lived most of the year, you will need to file NJ and then claim for "credits for taxes paid in other states". Alternatively, you can file both states. I'd advice you to file both states since one state might have lower tax rates than the other.
