I was never inside one. I have seen them pass over the house and one when we were on the lake in a boat. And there was one I never saw it but watched stuff fall down around me.
I was "In" a Hurricane, that was a trip. We were in my brother's boat. It big, 70 feet. In was hours of wind and boat blowing around, we were anchored. Watched the sun deck fly off the boat and hit this tug boat anchored about 200 yards away. This was all night. Then it got calm and I thought; "Thank God it over". NOT! We were in the eye and dang if it not start again about an hour later.

That's interesting, my experience was forty years plus or minus a couple of days earlier than your. I came too close for comfort in early March, 1966. Good old Amarillo, Texas. Nothing to slow one of them down for a hundred miles in any direction. HeII the only topography in the area is a hole in the ground called Paladuro (Sp) Canyon.
Cheers, and thanks for the memories. Man what a night that was...

I have seen a large water spout in Lake Erie go close by my boat. A water spout is a tornado on the water. Does that count ?
