sure! if the project is done properly. at this level, the students are gaining an understanding of how research is done, observations are made, experiments are conducted, data is collected, conclusions are drawn and the knowledge gained is then communicated. any project is a good project if the scientific method is followed and the student gains an insight into investigating his/her everyday world and sharing it in the forms and perameters their teacher is requiring. good luck!

this question or science project will require some time, so be sure to take that into account. if you have not begun yet and it's due in less than 4 weeks, your results will have to be amended, or listed as non-conclusive. just a tip...

I think it is an interesting and "testable" question for a 7th grade science project. You'll have to try to keep everything even besides the source of the light. Try to have the light on only as long as the sun is shining so one plant doesn't get more hours of light than the other one. Also try to be sure they have the same temperature - rather difficult because the light bulb will give off heat. If you have access to a light meter or something that will test the brightness of the light, that would help, too.

I think this is a great, testable questions for a student at your level. However, make sure that you are setting up the experiment in a way that allows you to answer the question at hand. Incandescent lights can have different wavelengths so make sure that you know which wavelengths your plants are being exposed to. The wavelength ranges can be found on the light box. In addition, don't forget to have a control - that is treated exactly the same except light source - to compare to. Good luck...

sounds like a great experiment for a seventh grader. but amke sure he includes the different frequencies of light emitted form the sun and from a incadecent light bulb.

ps most plants will die if only lighted by a incadescent house lightbulb
