I know what your saying , when your unemployed people just seem to treat you different. i was unemployed for about a year , i tried everyday to get work and now that i have a good job people treat me different again, want to borrow money and stuff. It sux it really does , i could understand if you was just lazy but if you have reasons then you should be treated with respect. Best thing you could do is do yourself a nice turd , wrap it up all nicely and post it through your neighbours letter box. tried and tested , trust me you`l feel alot better. all the best.

They lack any hope of ever achieving anything in their lives. Same applies to University graduates, who are forced to take lower paying jobs. The budget has been cut significantly for all those programs geared towards keeping the young busy or inspired to better their country's future. To assume or to use typical stereotypes towards "chavs" as a means to explain why these riots have occurred is not an accurate read and does not give creditably to the real underlying issue at hand. Bottom line, if people are unhappy, and have no guidance, or no job to go to, and no faith for the future, then their lack of self esteem will continue to be the root cause for acts of anger or continuing riots. How do you put it right? Find an economical sound way of keeping these programs going, keep the parts that work, and disregard the area that don't. Local communities cannot manage it alone either. I am not trying to sound soft here and yes, there are people throughout every nation that are hopeless cases. The goal for a successful country is to lessen that number of lost cases. Its a matter of understanding human nature and balancing this with economic principles that don't give everything away. I would think that it costs a nation more to clean up destruction, jail time, etc... then it does to have sound social education programs in place.

You've done nothing to deserve being treated like this.
Unfortunately a lot of people are ignorant to unemployed people - Im in the same situation, as is my Mum & Step mother...its not that we dont want to work but arent fit enough to work, we only wish we were.
People should be less judgmental & understand that there's a vast difference between those who CANT work & those who WONT work!
Its easy to judge if you live in the proverbial glass house, perhaps they should consider how they'd feel if they were unable to work, especially if they had to survive on benefits too.

damn the middle classes... i havent worked in 26 years..ok so im in a wheelchair, and pretty messed up... your well to do neighbours believe th egovernment rhetoric that were all swinging the lead...were all faking it... im alright, you cant miss the chair or the missing leg... so its obvious... other folks arent that lucky..and the neighbours are mean, and terrified their taxes are keeping you in luxury... yeah right... i get 75 quid a week... riches beyond the dreams of avarice... give me back my leg, fix my forked up arm, restore my mental health, and il be there monday morning, like everyone else... these bigots forget, we paid our taxes, we are entitled to treatement and leave from work... its the same for everyone in similar situations, rich or poor... only the middle classes, (who arent really middle class) read teh daily mail and use Bupa..and are appaled at the way the counrty is run... i have a favourite phrase... get back to work, pay your taxes, and keep me in the manner to which ive become accustomed..abject poverty...
people in general fritter their money away, and look for someone else to blame when the pots empty, were an underclass, an easy identifiable target... and, like i could care less... my last holiday was 1986, my car is an 1988 volvo... and i have absolutely no debt... that reallly upsets people...
i just smile and pop a 360 wheelie...

No not at all, people can be unemployed for many different reasons. Some people choose to be unemployed and not work, some people are unemployed for medical reasons etc. But for your neighbours to treat you that way is wrong and you should just ignore them, they have the problem not you

Why make time for these people?? Why let them impact your life?? They sound narcissistic, judgemental, unempathetic, unable to understand anything outside of the box, unable to comprehend anything besides what society shoves down their throat and tells them is true and just. Don't buy into all this!! Be an independent thinker, don't make time for negative people with negative, predictable, stereotypical qualities. Be who you are in your individual shoes and be frickin' proud!!! Cut those pesky neighbours out of your life. If they have nothing nice to say, make it clear that you won't have the time for them. Simple as that.

If your disability is real and you realy can't work, you have nothing to apologize for.
"Scum" is maintaining a disabled status after you are fully recovered enough to go back to work. That is, living off other people expense just because your lazy. Scum is faking disability and insurance claims in the first place.
But you should also realize that there are lots of different kinds of work. And there probably is SOMETHING you could do no matter how disabled you are. I'll bet if you think about it, you can find a way to be productive. I think that's the key. Maybe even if you're just doing voluntreer work counceling other folks who have disabilities but are new to the situation...
My cousin went blind slowly. There were folks, many of them volunteers who helped her make the adjustment. She worked as a volunteer helping others for many years. Now she's employed full time and volunteers part time too.

Society is capable of being mean for any number of reasons, perhaps the fear that they too are temporarily able bodied. It may be you are overly sensitive to real and perceived slights. we communicate by large majority through body language. My point is, it is in our nature to be productive. If you don't feel productive you may be projecting "negative vibes." If they have been real friends in the past, tell them how you feel. Either way there will be closure.

Being in a similar position I have had the same kind of attitude, but you're not scum nor anything like it you are in the unenviable position of being the visible side of our welfare system and as such it has always been that there has been a stigma attached with that

No. I love to work, but I got hurt on the job. I didn't choose not to work, and I definitely am not scum. I'd rather work than sit at home.
I think that if you are capable of working and just choose not to because you don't want to and collect welfare then that may put you in the "scum" category.
Others who have no choice are just in a hard time.
