This is just like the other problem. Both equations are in slope intercept form: y = mx + b. One slope is 1/4 and the other is -1/4. Since these slopes are neither equal nor multiply together to give -1, the 2 lines are NOT parallel and they are NOT perpendicular.

good luck!

y=1/4x-5 and y=-1/4x=5 the two equations of a line are not perpendicular. For two lines to be perpendicular to eachother the slopes have to be the negative reciprocal of each other. So the line that is perpendicular to y=1/4x-5 is y= -4x+5. The only thing that matters is the slope the y intercept doesnt affect if the lines are perpendicualr or not.

Two line are perpendicular if the product of their slopes is -1.
In your case the product of the slopes is 1/4*-1/4=-1/16.
Therefore the are not perpendicular
Y = 4x -5 and Y = -1/4 x+5 are perpendicular because the product of their slopes is 4*-1/4 = -1.

No - they are parallel. The slope of a line is just the factor in front of the 'x' in this form. Since the factors are both 1/4, they both have the same slope. Lines with the same slope are parallel.

y=1/4x-5; m=1/4

y=-1/4x+5; m=-1/4

since 1/4≠-1/(-1/4)=4, they are not perpindicular.

it order for it to be perpendicual they have to be negative reciprocals, so the reciprocal of
y=1/4x-5
would be
y=-4/1x-5 ... it would simplify to y=-4x-5

so therefore it is not perpendicular

no its not because the lines have the same angle
