On the other side of the coin - Yeah, I have been the 'Bad Guy' in more than a few of my relationships.

I feel sad now for being such a Twerp, but that doesn't make things right!

I have also been on the receiving end of things. IMHO - What goes around, comes around (in many (but not all) cases).

I expect to pay (in one way or another) for my younger decisions. Still, know - it takes two! I will honor my debt to those whom I owe!

God Bless Everyone I have ever known and/or loved!

Yes, and I'm with Bertha, I'm calling it quits, too. Funny thing, too, is that nothing is ever good enough, but them when they need someone to bust their butt doing some God-awful thing they don't want to to themselves, they expect you to do it with a smile. And then you don't see them until the next time they need the same kind of help. Never and reciprocity.

“I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
~Stephan Grellet quotes

keep being kind.

Any man's life will be filled with constant and unexpected encouragement if he makes up his mind to do his level best each day.
~Booker T. Washington

YOUR KINDNESS WILL PAY OFF. If you aren't appreciated by others, then try appreciating others yourself. You will not be forgotten when you show someone else your appreciation.

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I may not forget you.
~William Arthur

It depends the reason why you helped them. Are you helping them because you sincerely want to or because you want praise from them? Ask yourself that question first.

Knowing you did a good deed should be self satisfying.

But then a sincere thank you wouldn't hurt anyone either.
