I am writing a story, and there is an australian male in it, and I don't know what to name him. I was going to name him Steve in honor of Steve Irwin, who I was a fan of, but what do you guys think?

Here's a website that charts the top 10 male names in Australia for each year. When I lived in Australia, I remember many names were British in origin, but there were names like Shane too. Usually everyone had a nickname, so be sure to give your character one.

"We'll just call you 'Bruce'!" (from a Monty Python sketch about an Australian philosophy department in which EVERYONE is named 'Bruce', except for the newest member, whose name is actually 'Michael', but they decide THAT will be confusing!)

My Ozzie friends assure me that it IS a common name there (or at least for those over 30... don't know what the most recent trends are).
