When they put new pads on the car they most likely turned the rotors to give the new pads a clean surface and to also take any warpage out of the rotors. Doing this leaves the rotors thinner then they where when you first too it in. Having a thinner rotor allows them the warp faster. Now this is something that is always done for a proper brake job, so doing think they are attempting to rip you off. How do the rotors become warped so quickly? Stopping to fast or too hard. A lot of down hill driving, improper cooling of the brakes. You will need to have new rotors put on or have them re-turned to take the warpage out of them. From there you need to make longer stops to keep the brakes from heating up (this often requires driving slowing and anticipating stops) as well as making sure your not resting your foot on the brake and over heating them.

A sticky brake caliper will cause the symptoms your describing. Because it gets sticky *sometimes* is the reason it only does it *sometimes*. When a brake caliper gets sticky, that means that it doesn't fully release the pressure that it has on the brake pad when you let up on the brake petal. There are a variety of things that can cause a sticky caliper; usually it's caused by normal wear & tear. Since you didn't say how many miles your civic has on it, I'll bet that you're approaching the 100,000 mile mark. Eventually, if you don't get the problem checked into, the steering wheel will shake every time you use the brakes.

Honey, you probably need new brake rotors. When the rotors heat up, then you wash the car(wheels, too), or go thru puddles, this warps your rotors. They are large, flat discs that provide the friction for your brakepads and calipers to stop the car. Sometimes, a mechanics' shop can just turn them, but it sounds like you may need new ones. They can run anywhere between $30 and $60, plus labor, about 1 hour, so you can look forward to spending about $125-$160.

#1. Have your brake rotors checked for latteral runout. If the rotors are warped the pulsation shakes your steering wheel.
Be sure the wear on your brake pads is equal. If one side (pad) is warn more than the other the slider pins may need to be taken apart re-bushed and greased. In some cases the sliders are frozen not allowing the pads to sufficiently release when you take your foot off the petal.

Rotors are warped. If you can afford the lexus you should replace pads and rotors at the same time.
In his defense (for all the people who condemed him for breaking at high speeds), my sisters car did the same thing... at high speeds. Didnt mean I slammed on the brakes, if I tapped on the pedal at high speeds the car shook.
It's more noticable at higher speeds because the pad is traveling the rotor much faster.

It's old you need to take it to the shop. I had a lot of play in a station wagon once... all of a sudden, the front wheel just popped off the axel completely, it was the boot... thank God I was only going 30 mph...that force stopping suddenly at a speed much higher would've put me through the windshield. WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT. Motor mounts maybe, A frame bent.. out a line.. check those... One of your tires may be separating too.

Your brake rotors may be warped, you can get them turned at a brake shop. Shouldn't cost very much to do it. < $100 for all 4 rotors.
