The difference between a magician (ANY magician, palor or high magickal variety) and the audience is perception:

To the audience, it is magick.
To the practitioner, it is process.

High level wizards are the same as high level martial artists. The best ones you never know about, because they are that good at not being noticed.

In other words, if you see someone walking around with a gandalf hat on, they are mid-level at best, most likely less. The best ones your eyes, your instincts, every sensory affect you have within you would slide right past them without a moment's pause.

Think of it this way: magick is like waving a nice big GUN around. Guns attract all sorts of attention, especially the wrong kind. So most people who are into magick for any length of time learn that avoiding attention becomes priority #1. That's because, no matter how big a gun you have, there are always bigger, quicker, and more powerful out there. Wearing that gandalf hat might make you feel 'special' now, but you won't be feeling quite so special having a psychic parasite microscopically attached to your neck, emanating frequencies that would make a dog whimper if it wasn't tuned into your biorythmics, making your nervous system go haywire like a virus in a data center.

The people who don't believe in it don't want to believe in it, because it makes them feel safer that way. The people who do tend to learn very quickly how deep and scary the rabbit hole can be (bullet-dodging androids are the least of the dangers.)

Charmed/Harry Potter magic is Hollywood-fantasy. Many people have and develop abilities which are beyond the 5 "regular" ones. You might consider ESP, or telekinesis as Magick, we think of it as developing latent talent.

yeah but the real magic works in similar ways as the prayer does. It;s nothing like Hollywood. And the magic formula is will+energy=magic.

Yes, just like religion, it's all in the beliefs. If you absolutely believe that you can do magic, then you can. I mean real spell magic, It's absolutely true if you will it so.

Sure, I was just casting a love spell on the tooth fairy, when the Easter bunny came in and countered it with the evil eye.

Yes. However, it requires a lot of patience and A LOT OF RESEARCH! And there are many many types. Once again, research is very important. And you'd have to do lots of it.
