I wouldn't really want to witness this event, but prevent it. The burning of the Library of Alexandria. It has been speculated that the unknown wealth of knowledge lost there could have put humans on the moon centuries earlier. I do not know if this is true, but the history of the last 2,000 years would certainly have been different than it is today.

i would like to go back to rome and just look at some of the biggest battles in history and visit some of the cities and just look around. (before Christianity took over of course)
