My guy friend has a different IM than I do. Like he has MSN instant messenger and I have Yahoo. Is this a problem or can we still talk? Do we need the same IM 2 stay in touch?

Trillian is free, at http://www.downloads.com. Otherwise, yes, you do need the same software to communicate. Trillian can store more ids for msn and yahoo (AIM also). Trillian basic is free, and easy to download. Still have to sign in to a messenger service like MSN and yahoo. Even with trillian, you both either need a MSN or yahoo id.

Yes, usually two people will need to be using the same IM service to communicate.
