Yeah Bob, I was going in that direction; not necessarily because Iran sees itself as the enemy of the US, but because they don't want foreign militaries operating uninvited in their neighborhood.

Randy, I see the problems in my analogy. I'm not sure I think it's our business why people might not want our military in their neighborhoods, or whether we should dictate what form of government they have. There's too much moral relativism around this issue. We need to consider how we would act if our country were invaded, and accept that it is normal for others to act the same way.

I hope you are drawing a parallel with Iran. We have manipulated their country by about every means possible and they are manipulating the Iraq. We need diplomacy. Iraq and Syria are going to be a problem. We could build a wall like china has and separate the trouble makers, but we have to pay for bombs. Maybe we could sell some to Iran and forget to give them part so they would work. Oh we did that already.

of course. And just in case you are going to say to conservatives HA, you would arm a resistance in Canada but oppose the one in Iraq, they are very different things. The Canadian resistors would be freedom fighters, i.e fighting an invader to establish or reestablish a free government. I don't consider the tyranny of the Baath party or the new Islamic caliphate to be a free government. But hell yeah I would support resistance against communist imperialism. But the invasion of which you speak would most likely see the American government and other NATO nations provide military assistance. BTW, does Canada even have a standing army, and if so, what are some specs.

Are you implying that its ok for Iran to arm and train the Iraqi insurgents because Iran sees itself as an enemy of the US?

In answer to your question...there would be no need for the Resistance since Canada is a member of NATO and an ally of the US. Should China invade, the US (as well as the rest of NATO) would immediately respond with military force and reinforce the Canadians.

No that would be cowardly. The USA in that case would have to openly declare war on China. I would let the Canadians squirm for a couple of weeks first though since they act so high and mighty about not having a huge military.

Canada has a professional military, lessons in how to cover up 'friendly fire' would not be required; if Vietnam was too tough what would be the point of making them laugh at the idea anyway?

Of course. Considering that the Canadian/US border is the longest unguarded boarder in the world, it would be in our best interest.
But more importantly....Why would China want to invade Canada...They don't have snow in China?

With our media? And the public's willingness to swallow their propaganda? Given the likelihood that the media will side with the Chinese?

I can hear it now.... "Toronto-nam".
