I don't know any women that think it is okay to drink while pregnant, and any woman who does is pretty selfish.

I had a glass of wine every now and then when i was pregnant and it's not that i didn't give a **** about my baby i made sure that i checked it was ok and was not going to affect my child. Your body detoxifies the alcohol mostly out of your system before it even reaches the baby and the doc even told me that 1 drink won't harm my baby. Sure you aren't meant to drink everyday as it will harm your baby. My kids turned out just fine and are normal happy healthy children and i have 3.

well i turned 21 recently and i am pregnant. my mom decided to take me out and she did want me to get a drink. i told her it would be a waste of money since i can't even drink. and she can't either becuz of a surgery she had years ago. anyways, she told me it was fine to drink just a little since i don't drink at all. i think its the older generation of women who still think its fine to drink and that mindset is passed on. even if i were to have a few sips, its not known how much can cause damage so i avoid it all times.

Not ALL pregnant women do...unless you know for a fact that ALL pregnant women thin kit's okay to drink your generalized statement has no point.

studies have shown that a pregnant woman can drink up to 8 beers a week and it will have no effect on the child, so a beer on occasion or a glass of wine is fine. Not that if i were lucky enough to get pregnant I would do it, but medically, a tiny amount is fine. But I don't agree with taking that risk myself.

I think for a lot of people it goes back to the old "I turned out okay" excuse. Many of our mothers drank while pregnant with us, as did our grandmothers when they were pregnant and the vast majority of people turned out absolutely fine.

A lot of the literature out there also admits that no one knows what level of alcohol consumption causes FAS. Now, to me and the majority of women, we take that to mean better safe than sorry and totally abstain. Others interpret that as a little probably won't do harm.

First of all...lets change that to SOME pregnant women :)

In my personal life, I have never know a pregnant woman to drink. But I do tend to see it a lot on yahoo answers!! lol

I think some women choose to drink for the same reasons some women choose to continue smoking. They are selfish and they are putting their pleasure above the safety of their child.

an occasional glass of wine is ok....but not all the time or every nite. i had one at christmas and one at new years and maybe on my bday....some docs recommend it every now and then to clean out the fluid in the placenta ...it acts the same way if you were not pregnant, when you urinate....

but that small amount does not affect the baby whatsoever.

Because many doctors say it is not a big deal as long as you don't do very much or very often. Why are some women without medical degrees so judgemental?
