When I was in school, cell phones wasn't even a phase. It shouldnt be allowed in the classroom because it would be too disruptive..(text msg, phones ringing off the hook)..I'm sure the students can live without it for 6 hours..but then again, it is a new millenium.
If it was an emergency, somebody would be able to get thru to them thru the main office who will deliver the message.

No way. I don't think they should be allowed at all in elementary school. If there is an emergency, the students will always have the option to use a phone in the school and most likely the teacher will help them with their problem. In junior high and high school, phones should be allowed, but need to remain in the students' locker. Cell phones in the classroom are a total distraction and totally inappropriate. I also don't think teachers should be allowed to use their cell phones during class time (unless it is an emergency), whether it be recieving calls or making calls.

If a student has a cell phone in school, it should be in a locker, purse, or backpack turned OFF (not just on silent) and should not be turned on until the end of the school day. Sadly, when students are allowed to carry them they abuse the priveledge, texting friends during class or making calls in the bathroom and many shcools have to ban them.
At my school the phone is confiscated if a teacher even sees it, but students still carry them and text friends during class. It's very disrespectful and distracting. I keep my cell phone off in my purse and use it after school if my ride is running late. The fact is, schools can't keep students from carrying them so the rule saying "no using cell phones" and "no carrying cell phones" serves the same purpose.

NO. I teach college science labs, and nothing annoys me more than kids cell phones going off - and them answering it. I tell them to put it away, but I really don't have any authority to take it away, and they know it - so they just answer it during class. Since when has that been considered all right? It's incrediably disrespectful.
There's no emergency. You need a ride home? Find a pay phone. Fire? Bomb scare? There are plenty of phones in the office. You don't need a cell phone in school or in class for ANY reason. We got by just fine without them 10 years ago. And so will all of you.

NEVER. Students are allowed to have cell phones in high school under the line of allowing technology. What it is allowing is snapchat, instagram, Facebook, texting, watching videos, making calls, playing games, social media, listening to music with headphones that can be heard across the classroom, and everything is being done except working on their school work the entire class period. It is totally distracting. Learning is not being accomplished, only goofing off and technical socializing.

i dont think students should be allowed to carry cell phones at school period! if there is an emergency there is a school nurse and school secretary. most students use their cell phones to cheat on test through text messages. i know i did it in college! but k-12th graders should not be allowed. and in the school district here the schools look down upon it and parents still want their kids to be able to take them to school. i actually sell cell phones and parents buy their kids cell phones even if theyre 6,7,8 yrs old. which i think is ridiculous. they don't need them. then they complain about how their kids cell phone was stolen at school and how the cell phone company won't replace it for free.
it's just dumb on everyones part to let a kid have a cell phone at school.

No. In addition to the other reasons given, keeping cell phones out of the schools will help slow down some of the tech-bullying that goes on. Last thing we need is for kids to feel like there's no escape from their tormentors.

They shouldn't. They should leave them in their lockers. If there is a family emergency, the parents should contact the school the same way they used to before cell phones were as popular.
