There is a company called Instant Financial Services out of Chicago with a web address of www.instantfs.net. They claim I could get a $5000 loan at 7% repayable over 5 years. But to get the $5000, I first must Western Union them more than $800 as "colateral". Anyone have an answer on how to find out if this company is real, if the web address is scam waiting to happen. Thanks

Tell them to loan you $5800, but keep the $800 as "collateral". That should send them back into their hidey-hole! 411.com finds the following: "No listings found for "instant financial" within 50 miles of Chicago IL" Good luck.

That company is NOT real! That's a common scam to get people's money. You'll send your money but never hear from them again and will never get anything in return. That is definitely a scam waiting to happen.

Yes it's a scam. For heaven's sake there are some things you should always do in person and apply for credit is one of them. I hope you didn't fill out an application because there's probably some people in romania taking out like 200 credit cards in your name right now.

SCAM> NEVER western union up front. 15% closing UP front? C'mon. You're going to get ripped off

Contact your state's atty general and ask them before you send anything.

Google them.
But to be honest, with a deal like that, I don't even have to do that - that's a pretty obvious scam, right there.

To me, it sounds like a scam.

I'd check to see if it has a BBB record (http://www.bbb.org/).

I'd also check to see when the domain was created using http://www.whois.net.

Scam!!! Report it (them) to your local BBB or even Chicago's BBB.
