Pound puppies, hypercolour t-shirts (they were just WRONG on girls who had 'developed') fluro shoe laces, making your own t-shirts with that paint that puffs up when you put the hair-dryer on it, no internet, big cellphones like bricks, you remember when slippery when wet came out, cds were these big new things, buying a vcr was a status symbol, getting an atari when they were brand new, your family bought a first generation microwave oh the list goes on!! pony tails on the side of your head, teasing your hair, the bigger the better, scary female power suits with massive shoulder pads. That's enough for now!

I remember:
a) My dad walking on the front lawn causing ash from Mount St. Helen's to puff up, and that it rained 11 inches in May 1980.
b) My parents getting the family an Intellivision for Christmas 1982, and how I burst into tears that I couldn't get to Level 3 on Space Armada on my first try.
c) Me sneaking into my brother's bedroom while he was still sleeping so I could "borrow" his friend's copy of "Dungeons & Dragons" off of the dresser, to play it on the Intellivision at 5 am.
d) Getting thrills that I could make a dot move from one side of the screen to the other on the Apple ][e using Applesoft BASIC.
e) Playing Lode Runner on the Apple for 6 hours straight.
f) Thinking it funny to type in swear words into Infocom text games on the Apple and seeing how the computer responded.
g) Watching Smurfs with my sister from 9 am to 10:30 am every Saturday. I cried in the episode where the mouse "Squeaky" died.
h) Playing with my sister and combining our Lego and plastic Smurfs together to recreate scenes from the Smurfs.
i) Trying to moonwalk like Micheal Jackson while watching his videos until Dad called us kids outside to help feed the cows.
j) The time during The Marathon Of Hope when one of the men repairing our barn's roof who happened to be named Terry Fox came in to eat dinner with the family. When he said what his name was, all us kids looked under the table to see if he had an artificial leg.
k) Lauging at Wayne Gretzky jokes (What is Gretzky's favourite wine? "Mr. Referee! He hit me!") Hey - we were in Flames Territory in southern Alberta.
l) laughing when Steve Smith scored on his own net to help the Flames beat the Oilers in seven games in the 1986 playoffs. The Flames lost the Cup to Montreal, though.
m) going nuts when the Flames won it all in 1989 (also against the Canadiens).
n) playing head-to-head Tetris with my friends on our Nintendo Game Boys.
o) getting my friends' hand-held Pacman game confiscated in Grade 5 for playing it in class.
p) getting my friends' Rubik's Cubes confiscated for the same reason. I left my Cube at home.
q) all those Metricification commercials on TV, and taking the outdoor temperature in Celsius in Grade Two as a Metric exercise. We were only supposed to be outside for a few minutes per turn, but we would end up staying out so long that the teacher would come outside and yell at us.
