I plan on moving to DC sometime next month for my job and wanted some information regarding neighborhoods/areas to live in/recommended apartment complexes. I'm looking to rent an apartment for less than $2000 and would like to be in an area where there are other young professionals but close enough to bars nightlife etc. I know very little about DC, so any info. would be greatly appreciated.

You can start by writing or calling the chamber of commerce for information. I have listed their web site. There is also an apartment locator with questions about dc. Hope this helps.

Well... there are lots of areas of DC. Do you mean DC proper, or are you going to be working in the Virginia or Maryland suburbs?

Commuting can be a real pain, so you'll probably want to live reasonably close to where you work.

That being said, here's a list of my favorite neighborhoods in the area that would meet your criteria:
Dupont Circle, DC
Southwest/Waterfront, DC (the most forgotten area)
Adams Morgan, DC
Foggy Bottom area, DC
Old Town Alexandria, VA
Clarendon area (Arlington), VA

These are all very urban areas. There are plenty other other options a little further out.

My personal favorite was Southwest/Waterfront in DC. It was mostly a quiet residential area, but it was a 10-minute walk to the Capitol building and the National Mall. The night life is better in Dupont and Adams Morgan, though, if you're into the club scene.

Depends what you want, (i.e. a studio can be in the middle of it all), a one bedroom may be a small ways out.

For young professionals, consider, in this order:

Dupont
Adams Morgan
Cleveland Park
Georgetown (not on the top because it does not have metrorail access)
Arlington, VA
Eastern Market
Bethesda,Md
