I think of bettas as angels, just kidding but really, the males have just gorgeous flowing fins that make them so angelic almost haunting, flowing around like ghosts. Here's a hiaku:

Floating through water,
Haunting, peaceful. swirl your fins,
calms mind and spirit.

The poem was going too far (yeah) but hey I'm a nut for fish. The are soo cute, what can I say?
But yeah, I am very appreciative of Earth (i'm not a hippe) but back to bettas, They're very beautiful. He he he he. **O-Kay** But it's horrible what inexperienced keepers keep them in, I mean C'MON! No fish let alone a person, wants to live in a room or tank about 5 times their size. It just dsgusts me, but you really can't blame them, they don't know any better so you can't say anything. *hem hem* (to myself). Bettas!! WHOOOOOOOO!

Bettas are a beautiful fish to watch & each one actually has it's own "personality" & does different things. I have 3 large fancy bowls, w/a plant in each one & crystal ornaments in each one. I just put a question out as I have been having problems w/the last 5 I just bgt. w/in a week, lost 5 & have one left!!! I am going to start over tho as I finally have the medication & now know sea salt should be added to the water also. I am going to try again & hopefully have good luck this time. I NEVER had any problems before like I've had this time. Have no clue why...

I think they are excellent begginner fish and are very cheap. I would try putting it in a tank at least 2 1/2 o 5 gallons of water. Bettas Are AWESOME

bettas are really neat. Its sad that people have them in inproper sized bowls and stuff. And its sad that most people dont know that they can actually be housed with other fish (non agressive, no tail nipping, community tank type fish). They cannot be housed with a female betta nor another male betta, but more than 1 female bettas may be housed together.

Different people live differently, Fishes are no different.
We just can't judge them by our standard.
I have been keeping betta since 1990, never seen them die due to loneliness.
Maybe to relief your guilt slightly, you must do your part by talking to them whenever you are free loh. But still, try not to keep just a betta, but at least two, in different tank, and let them know the other existance.

Cheers

Keeping bettas in little jars or vases is cruel. I know they seem to come from that invironment in the wild but they just seem so sad. My betta is doing better than ever in a 35L tank with a heater and a few other fish. They are peaceful, and relaxing fish but with character and attitude! More than other fish. I feed mine blood worms one by one with tweezers and he jumps out of the water to eat them, so cool and very smart. They are great I totally recommend one...
even recueing them from those pet shops in those dirty contaminated tiny jars is to be commended......they will love you for it! :P

I think they are pretty simple and cheap fish. They live for short periods up to 2 and a half years, but when you have them alone in one of those small 3 gallon decorated tanks next to your bed they are quite beautiful and fun to watch, however for an experienced fish keeper or someone who enjoys watching larger tanks i wouldn't recommend buying them. Betta fish are better suited for a kids from two to eight years of age and for old people because these things seem to make them relax

they can actually live with other fish just not another male beta cause they will fight. a life in a tank is actually good for them. would you rather live in a durty puddle or a clean tank. they are strong fish that need minimal care. good fish.
