Back in the day, women who had fuller figures were considered sexy. If you notice, a lot of the paintings you see of naked women aren't exactly thin. They have full hips, legs, waists and everything.

As values change, so do aesthetics. Women used to be strong too, now they fight for laws to "make them equal," to men, implying that they are weaker and need help to achieve equality...This is foolish, but since women have decided to use the same measure of value as men, (instead of the measure of feminine strengths, which are totally different and compliment male qualities,) they are compelled to project a more masculine image...

Since now women are considered naturally "weak," they strive to lose the extra layer of fat that nature gave them so they can have the leaner look of males. It looks to me like we're trying really hard to turn everyone into homosexuals.

Your body shape is caused by three things. Genetics, you may come from a long line of barrel shaped people, like some of the Slavic peoples for example. Your body wants to store those excess calories around your waist to keep you warm during the cold Slavic winters. Genetics doesn't mean you can't have a slender shapely body, it just means you will have to work harder than someone with a genetic ancestery that provides a lean body naturally.. The Second thing that shapes your body is diet. Eat low Fat and low Carbohydrate meals. Both Fat and Carbohydrates are easily converted to body fat and stored. Never eat more calories than you can burn. Excess calories are stored as fat. Finally, and just as important as number two is exercise. Contrary to poplar opinion on this site, you can shape your body by exercising certain muscles more than other muscles. If you want shapely legs, do leg exercises until your leg muscles are at the desired shape. If you want a tight and shapely waist, exercise your abdominal muscles and side obliques muscles. The same applies for the rest of your body.

It used to be that larger people were more attractive because the more ample figure denoted an abundance of wealth, nourishment, fertility, etc.

Skinny has been in ever since the day to day challenge of obtaining food fell by the wayside. Now you have to appear athletic and "healthy" (as in not fat) to meet the requirements of the "ideal" physique.

its horrible, society and the media put this instant pressure on people and said you have to be thin. what a load of crap. first off it's unhealthy to be ridiculously thin and to make it worse...these teenage celebrities like lindsay lohan and hillary duff feel that pressure and need, what this does, is it makes their fans, little girls, feel they need to be thin too. they're making 12 year old girls and what not become anorexic before adult hood. its an unhealthy obsession its just too bad hollywood glamourizes it. does hollywood even realize how much of an impact it has on society and culture? if so they're doing a terrible thing. by making people feel like they need to be super thin. disgusting, real women have curves and full figures,

I'm a small girl myself, i weigh 110 I'm 5 feet, it's Hollywood that does it, i remember watching t.v it said that Hollywood prefer skinny people, but men prefer women with curves. I'm trying gain at least 10 or 15 more, i believe women should have curves, you shouldn't see your rib cage. young women see this on TV and believe this is how you should look. i agree with you 100%

This is one of those things the media is saying. The media is saying thin is in and the sad thing is idiots buy into it. I'll take a girl that isn't fat, but has curves over a twig any day.

One theory (that I just invented) is that the fashion industry promotes extreme thinness for their models because that way they can make more profit: tinier clothing priced high equals more profit for them.

I hope more and more our society, talking American at the moment, spreads the word that healthy bodies come in all sizes. As does beauty.

Back in the day, food was scarce so the fatties were swithched on and succesful. In this day, with the surplus of everything, the idiots eat everything. Those people rebelling against it and authority choose to voluntarily starve.
