Race had nothing to do with the charges being dropped, but race was the reason the charges were made. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the DA decided to charge them because he wanted the prodominantly black city of Durham to see that he took the allegations of the (black) exotic dancer seriously.

That's the problem with the U.S. society today. We still see racial issues where none should exist.

Get real! They had charges dropped because the gal that claimed rape was a stripper and a prostitute to boot. I am sure they were able to hire a great legal team but when a prosecutor charges someone with a felony, the evidence and proof better be there and it must never be for winning an election! The NC Attorney General dropped charges, but those kids will have an arrest record on their NCIS forever unless they get it expunged!

The charges were dropped because there was NO physical evidence. No DNA evidence at all that matched the DNA of those young men.
Their accuser was a stripper and prostitute who was stuffed full of men's DNA, but NOT the DNA of the accused. If anything happened that night, it was merely a case of theft of services.
The accuser kept changing her story and one of the accused had a good alibi.
They did NOT get off because they were white and they were accused because the accuser was black. Don't you remember Tawana Brawley?

Apparently you know enough about this, so I assume you know exactly why the charges were dropped. Your question does nothing but promote racial tension, and people who haven't follow this will take from your question, that this is a possible reason for the charges to be dropped

Rich is not the key word here. It is Innocent. They were Innocent and I can not believe this accuser has not had to show her face. She did lots of damage to these Innocent men. Money has nothing to do with proving the Innocence.

Having read a number of reports I would say that the charges were dropped because a false report was made against them.

No it was because the case against them was fabricated.

It was however the EXACT reason they were targetted to begin with. Ever see that movie Bonfire of the vanities? Same thing in that movie!

No, I think they were dropped because the accuser is a liar who deserves charges pressed against her for false accusations.
