A simple answer? Passion is the fuel of life. It is just like the fuel we use in our households for cooking and heating purposes. Then it would be like fire, the very same thing that can burn a house down into ashes, will also keep it warm, lit and friendly, only if understood and learnt to use properly. This is what I understand by passion.

I may also say that Life without passion would be impossible. But unfortunately, passion is often associated with desire, and desire with our fallibility through temptations and indulgence, whereas there can be passion for each of the good things in life. There can be, for example, passion for learning, passion for work and passion for the place on lives in; or there can be most simply passion for life. I cannot say that passion is a torment, however, at time it is, in my life, and may be I know why – passion like all good things can be turned into a nightmarish torment, true, but only when misplaced, abused or mishandled.

The funny thing about the torment of a passion is that it is a strangely rewarding (and almost enjoyable) kind of torment.

My passion is philosophy, and while I often find myself with my brain twisted in knots and the rug of my most strongly held beliefs ripped out from under me, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy every minute of it. That's why the passion remains despite the torment.

There are many types of passion all of which fall into different categories. Some are joy others torment. Each individual is different

They are both at the same time.

My passion-well, passions-are acting, singing, and music.

They are my joy because there is nothing I enjoy more than those three things.

They are my torment because I want people to recognize my passions (I want to be a famous actress and singer/songwriter), and it is very difficult to achieve those goals.

My passion is reading. It is mostly a joy, except at night when I am really tired and need to sleep, however I just can't drag myself away from the book...
