Myself and a friend of mine were just recently discussing this subject of neediness and relationships and how "you have to love yourself before really loving another" do any of you guys have any insight on this? what exactly is "neediness" and if you are that needy how do you suppose a person change?

I definitely think its unattractive! Lack of love/attention in other relationships probably causes it. I had an ex boyfriend who was needy he always called and when I would see him he would act like a child always wanting me sitting next to him if I got up to clean or use the computer he would get mad. He never changed even though I tried my best to give him love and attention.

Neediness is just that. Someone who is a dependant for money, happiness, any thing they can't provide for themself.
A person has to have their own career, car, home, and be secure themselves to not appear to be needy. They have to have things going for themselves, and find happiness from within. In other words no one can make you happy, but YOU.
Yeah, it's pretty unattractive. Don't you think?

I think neediness is living as if you can't live without the other person, constantly calling, IMing, being jealous, cutting off your other relationships, waiting by the phone, living so he or she is the only thing in your life. It is unattractive, dangerous and often ends up tragically.

Depends on the person, every guy has his level of "needyness" Me personally are the exact opposite. Girls that are very "needy" are high maintanance and is too much trouble for lazier guys like me ;P

neediness is like...
you dont have your own life. you NEED your boyfriend/girlfriend to have a good time or to make you feel good... and when you arent with them you are lonely and sad. its kind of like Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. She needed him to compliment her and make her feel good about herself.
to not be needy, you have to make yourself happy by doing things that dont involve your boyfriend or girlfriend. Play a sport, go out with your friends, or do something that makes yourself feel good.
