Well, I am betting that I will be one of the oldest to respond so I'll be picking music I listen to. Roy Orbison had a large number of ballads and they are still played. But even short term stars like Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners ( Since I don't have You) were good. Crooning, love ballads just don't get the play they used to although there has been something of a comeback when they are used in movies.
There are so many to choose from but personally I like most of the ballads from 1940 to 1968. Just showing my age I guess.
